Cancún… What to expect?

Cancún, a modern resort complex with a great array of shopping malls, places to visit and many restaurants.

The coast was all made of swamps, mangroves, wild nature and unexplored beaches. The exact appellation back then was somehow confusing; there are some maps where this place is referred to as ‘Kankun’ (one word with ‘k’), which in Mayan language means ‘serpent pot’ or ‘serpent nest’.

When is the best time to visit Cancún?

High season in Cancún begins December 15th and on until Easter and “Spring Break”. However, based on the weather conditions, the best time to visit Cancún is between February and April which coincides with the Mexican most popular vacation season. If you wish to avoid the +100 F that Cancún brings in the summer, you may want to choose winter season to visit, the weather is ideally cool from November and thru January.

How to get there?

By plane. Cancún is only a short 3.5 hour direct flight from Chicago, 4 hour flight from NYC, 4.5 hour flying time from Los Angeles.
By car. From the Cancún International Airport to Playa del Carmen it’s only a 50 minute drive. From Cancún to Tulum it’s a 2 hour drive.
Ferry Boat. Cancún to Isla Mujeres it’s a short 20 minute ride, there are 12 rides a day. Cozumel to Playa del Carmen, 40 minute ride, 14 rides a day

Be aware, there is no ferry from Cancún to Cozumel or vice versa; many people do think there is one but we can assure you there is no such thing.

What are the must see/do/eat?

There is plenty to do in Cancún; there are many world class resorts all along the coast of this beautiful Caribbean Sea. On the other side of the main avenue in the Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera in Spanish) you will find the Nichupté Lagoon which features dozens of spots for those looking from a romantic restaurant to the hottest bar in town.
Cancún offers a bunch of water sports, including the most fun and entertaining tours and excursions, spa’s, and golf courses.

Be confident that you will find something for everyone while in Cancún, there is always something to do for every kind of visitor.

Tips

Don’t forget to visit the Coral Reef in Cozumel — the second longest chain of coral reef in the world, famous for its amazing plant and animal life. Most of the hotels in Cancún offer the ‘All Inclusive’ plan, which as its name indicates, includes all meals, drinks and non-motorized water activities. There are some hotels offering the ‘European Plan’ which indicates that the quoted rate is strictly for lodging and does not include any meals.

Cancún is very sunny, so bring plenty of sunscreen. Don’t spoil a great vacation with sunburn.
