Cozumel is Mexico’s third biggest island, the ideal destination for those couples wishing to enjoy a loving honeymoon or just a romantic getaway having the stunning sunsets as scenery. You can walk the white sand beaches, sit on the beach under the moonlight, swim on the turquoise color ocean or enjoy romantic afternoons with a candle light dinner.

There are hotel zones such as Playa Norte (north beach) and Zona Sur (south zone), where you will find gorgeous Resorts facilities to enjoy every moment of your visit. There is also the Chankanaab (meaning “small sea“) Lagoon which offers a beautiful beach, but what you’ll stop here for is the snorkeling (or diving). You can jump right in and explore limestone caves which lead to the lagoon. Chuck full of thousands of tropical fish, Chankanaab is a must see. There’s a botanical garden here as well which has the region’s most representative flora.

When is the best time to visit Cozumel?

High season in Cozumel begins December 15th and on until Easter and “Spring Break”. However, based on the weather conditions, the best time to visit Cozumel is between February and April which coincides with the Mexican most popular vacation season. If you wish to avoid the +100 F that Cozumel brings in the summer, you may want to choose winter season to visit, the weather is ideally cool from November and thru January.

How to get there?

By Plane. You can make it to Cozumel from Houston, New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, Denver, Dallas y many more cities by flying to Cancun International Airport and then head towards Playa del Carmen.
By Car. From the Cancun International Airport to Playa del Carmen it’s only a 50 minute drive. Once you are in Playa del Carmen, you can take the Ferry boat that will get you on Cozumel Island on a 40 minute ride. Ferries run from 6 am thru 11 pm from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel.

What are the must see/do/eat?

Cozumel’s little town called San Miguel has a neat Caribbean style featuring an international cruise ship pier, being this the one with more cruise ships visits in Mexico.
There are also golf courses, spas and restaurants with the flavors of the Mexican Caribbean and its great seafood, or if you want to party there are plenty of options to rock & roll or to have a nice romantic dinner under the moonlight. You ask, Cozumel people will deliver!

Tips

Visit the coral reef in Cozumel. The island's 32-km long reef system is located off the island's southern leeward coast
El Faro in Punta Celerain, also known as Punta Sur, is an Ecological Park located south of San Miguel, it has interesting wetlands, a magnet for migratory birds in April and May, and home to lots of crocodiles year-round.
Enjoy snorkeling and/or diving tours on the coral reef national parks. You can also swim with the dolphins or just enjoy a tour around the entire island to take pleasure in watching the turquoise color ocean.
Cozumel is very sunny, so bring plenty of sunscreen. Don’t spoil a great vacation with sunburn.
